New members are welcome to try us out.
It’s an open discussion on a theme decided on by the group. We all come up with ideas and then talk about them. Usually there is a leader who presents the topic to get us all started.
There is no ‘homework’, but members are expected to take an interest in current affairs and sometimes read around a topic or research it, using radio, newspapers, libraries, the web etc.
No previous knowledge of any of the discussion themes is required, but an open mind is a definite advantage.
Guest contributors may be invited from time to time.
Topics we’ve covered include:
Prisons and punishment
Asylum seeking
War in Iraq
Multiculturalism
Proportional representation
Happiness
Council housing
Medical intervention in very premature births
The Reith Lectures
Education
Religious education
The DNA database
