The U3A or University of the Third Age is an educational self-help co-operative for people no longer in full-time employment who believe that ‘learning is for life’.
About the U3A.
The university of the third age (U3A) is a university in the original sense of the word - a group of people committed to learning, whose members are mostly no longer in full time work. There are no age restrictions, however.
It began in France in 1972, and a British organisation followed in 1982. Hackney U3A started two years ago and now has about 100 members. Our activities take place in the London Borough of Hackney but we do not have an office, and we meet in various locations throughout the borough.
Clicking on the links on the right hand side of this page or a the top will give you more information on what we do. There is also an online Hackney U3A Calendar to get dates and times of our activities, though you should note that the this is not a full picture of what’s going on and you will need to check elsewhere on this site for further details.
To register an interest, or ask for further information, fill in our online contact form.
Or you can write to our membership secretary: r.d.barron@btinternet.com
